This is the largest peak audience in the 23 years that NBC has broadcast the race. \u200b Additionally, the Derby&#8217;s streaming viewership was the largest for a horse racing event on NBC, with 714,000 viewers, up (92%) from 371,000 in 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What\u2019s contributing to this rise in viewership? One factor could be the rise in the growing legality of sports betting. According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/horse-racing\/story\/_\/id\/40089867\/record-2107m-bet-2024-kentucky-derby\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ESPN<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Derby betting galloped to a record $320.5 million in wagers, up from $288.7 million in 2023.
