This year, the station is celebrating Earth Week,\u00a0<\/span>in which its\u00a0<\/span>weather team of<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Karlene Chavis,\u00a0<\/span>Shawn Styles<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>Evan Noorani,\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>Neda Iranpo<\/span>ur<\/span>\u00a0take a deep dive into the environmental efforts taking place across California<\/span>, and will shed light on some very important issues \u2013 like wildfire prevention \u2013 so we can better understand\u00a0<\/span>and appreciate this place we call home<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Even better, the efforts don\u2019t stop when Earth Week does. The station will continue to run its Earth 8 series, which has become a programming staple<\/span>\u00a0over the years.<\/span>\u00a0In this series, News<\/span> 8\u2019s meteorologists\u00a0<\/span>connect with scientists<\/span>\u00a0and experts to educate audiences on environmental issues.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

F<\/span>or example,\u00a0<\/span>in this segment,<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>S<\/span>haw<\/span>n Styles\u00a0<\/span>talks to experts about<\/span> the Monarch Butterfly’s declining population<\/span>\u00a0and offers tips \u2013 such as planting milkweed \u2013 as a small step that viewers can take to do their part<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201c<\/span>It\u2019s subject matter that really resonates with the people in California<\/span>\u00a0and it really connects because our viewers are very passionate about our beautiful community,\u201d\u00a0<\/span>says Dana McDaniel<\/span>, Content Director at CBS 8.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cEarth 8\u00a0<\/span>is a way for us to make sure that we are\u00a0<\/span>consistently<\/span> telling the stories that need to be told<\/span>\u00a0and offering small ways our viewers can make a difference.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>T<\/span>he viewers are getting their wishes<\/span>\u00a0and making a difference in more ways than one.\u00a0<\/span>McDaniel\u00a0<\/span>said<\/span>\u00a0that members of the community have begun reaching ou<\/span>t<\/span>\u00a0to the station with story ideas.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Data from MRI Simmons shows that 60% of companies should help consumers become more environmentally responsible, and 52% say they are more likely<\/span>\u00a0to purchase a product or service from a company that is environmentally friendly.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Many brands have a mission<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>like TEGNA\u2019s, to serve the greater good of local communities. Aligning with TEGNA on initiatives like beach clean-ups or recycling days can be a way to show the com<\/span>munity that your brand cares.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“<\/span>When you partner with a station that has the reach that we have, we can take those community events and put them on a bigger platform and grow them so that it can reach more people,\u201d said McDaniel. <\/span>\u201cW<\/span>e will reach way more people than brands alone, just because that’s what we do.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
