Gannett Announces Executive Appointments

McLEAN, VA – Two executive appointments were announced today by the Newspaper Division of Gannett Co., Inc. (NYSE: GCI).

    Joni L. Silverstein was named vice president/Market Development for the division. Silverstein has been president and publisher of The Daily Times in Salisbury, MD.
    Richard J. Jensen was named president and publisher of The Daily Times to replace Silverstein. Jensen has been president and publisher of the Public Opinion in Chambersburg, PA.

“I am delighted Joni is joining the corporate staff as vice president of Market Development. She has a rich and deep background not only in marketing, but in newspapering, and will make a valuable contribution to our efforts in the Newspaper Division,” said Sue Clark-Johnson, president of the Newspaper Division.

Silverstein has been president and publisher of Salisbury since 2005. Previously, she was vice president of market development at Wilmington, where she joined Gannett in 1998. She began her newspaper career at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch in 1978. She is a graduate of the University of Tulsa.

She replaces Susie Ellwood, who was named executive vice president and general manager of the Detroit Newspaper Partnership L.P.

“Rick brings more than 30 years of newspaper experience to his new job in Salisbury, and I know he will make a valuable contribution not only to the newspaper, but to the community,” Clark-Johnson said.

Jensen had been president and publisher in Chambersburg since 2005. Previously, he served as executive editor in Binghamton, NY, and editor in Utica, NY, and Niagara Falls, NY. He also held editing roles in Rockford, IL, Rochester, NY, and Ithaca, NY, where he joined Gannett in 1974 after graduating from the University of Missouri.
