Charles Hanner Named Head of Flight Operations at Gannett

McLEAN, VA – Gannett Co., Inc. (NYSE: GCI) announced today that Charles E. Hanner has been named head of the company’s Flight Department. Hanner succeeds Gary A. Sanders who is retiring after a 33-year career with Gannett.

As chief pilot, Hanner will be responsible for all aspects of Gannett’s flight operations, supervising all pilots, maintenance staff and hangar operations. Hanner began his career with Gannett in 1972 as a pilot. In 1994, he was named chief pilot of Gannett.

Craig Dubow, Gannett’s president and chief executive officer, said: “We are delighted to have a person with Chuck Hanner’s experience in aviation assume this important role. We are confident Chuck will continue the successful safety record and other programs initiated by Gary.”

Sanders joined Gannett in 1972 in the aircraft maintenance department. In 1986, he was promoted to manager of maintenance, and in 1998 he was named director of flight operations, a role he has held since that time. Under Sanders’s direction, Gannett’s Flight Department was a leader in qualifying for ISO and ISBAO certification.
