Gannett Board Approves Dividend Increase

McLEAN, VA – Gannett Co., Inc.’s (NYSE:GCI) board of directors today declared a regular quarterly dividend of 24 cents per share, the 34th increase since Gannett became a public company in 1967. This represents an increase of 1 cent per share, or 4.3 percent.

The new quarterly dividend is payable on Oct. 1, 2002 to shareholders of record on Sept. 13, 2002.

Douglas H. McCorkindale, chairman, president and CEO, said: “This increase in our dividend reflects our ongoing commitment to share Gannett’s financial success with our shareholders. This will be the 140th consecutive quarterly dividend since the company went public.”
