Gannett Executive Promotions Announced

ARLINGTON, Va. – – Three key executive promotions were announced today at Gannett by John J. Curley, chairman and chief executive officer.

– – Douglas H. McCorkindale to vice chairman and president.

– – Larry F. Miller to executive vice president and chief financial officer.

– – George R. Gavagan to vice president and controller.

McCorkindale, 58, has been vice chairman/chief financial and administrative officer since 1985. He joined Gannett in 1971 and has held numerous management positions at the company, including president of the Diversified Media Division as well as chief financial officer and general counsel. He has been a director of Gannett since 1977.

Curley said: “Doug McCorkindale has worked hard and effectively to earn this promotion to president. He has been a first rate executive since joining Gannett as a lawyer specializing in merger and acquisition work.”

Miller, 59, has been senior vice president/financial planning and controller since 1991. He joined Gannett in 1971 and has held various financial titles at the company.

Gavagan, 50, has been vice president/corporate accounting services since 1993. Prior to that he was assistant controller, and director of accounting and financial reporting. He joined Gannett in 1979 as manager of internal audit.

McCorkindale said: “Larry Miller has been an integral part of Gannett’s financial team for over 25 years. His well deserved promotion to chief financial officer will result in a seamless transition continuing Gannett’s tradition of strong financial management. George Gavagan’s promotion reflects his ever expanding role in financial management at Gannett.”
