Gannett Honors Top Employees, Including Manager of the Year

Gannett honored its companywide award winners and Unsung Heroes on April 6 at a ceremony at Gannett corporate headquarters.

Gannett announced award winners for 2010 Manager of the Year, Innovator of the Year, Sales Executive of the Year, Corporate Staffer of the Year and the Leadership & Diversity Award and the Individual Leadership & Diversity Award.

Award winners announced at the ceremony and the finalists are:

MANAGER OF THE YEAR – Mark Cornetta, president and general manager of KUSA/KTVD-TV, Denver. Finalists: Darren Bruce, Newsquest Magazine Publisher; and John Misner, president and general manager of KPNX-TV, Phoenix, and John Zidich, president of the U.S. Community Publishing’s West Group and president and publisher of The Arizona Republic.

INNOVATOR OF THE YEAR – USA TODAY’s iPad Launch Team. Finalists: AZ Fact Check Team, Arizona Republic, KPNX-TV and AZCentral.com; and Michelle Savoy, senior manager/digital projects and online operations, Arizona Republic and azcentral.com.

SALES EXECUTIVE OF THE YEAR – Jill Krigsten, account executive at KPNX-TV, Phoenix. Finalists: Tony Lane, senior account executive, Gannett Digital, Chicago; and Dennis Williams, account executive, WGRZ-TV, Buffalo, NY.

CORPORATE STAFFER OF THE YEAR – Michael Hart, vice president/treasurer, Gannett. Finalists: Rob Mennie, vice president/senior news executive, Gannett Broadcasting; and Tim Regan, vice president/workforce planning and development, Gannett.

LEADERSHIP & DIVERSITY UNIT AWARD – Tennessean Media Group, Nashville. Finalists: The Greenville (SC) News; Pacific Daily News, Hagatna, Guam; Republic Media, Phoenix; The Times, Shreveport, La.

LEADERSHIP & DIVERSITY INDIVIDUAL AWARD – Brent Jones, reader advocacy manager at USA TODAY.

In addition, Gannett honored its Unsung Hero award winners. They are:

    Jeremy Day, district sales manager, Burlington (VT) Free Press;
    Donna Evaro, reporter, Great Falls (MT) Tribune;
    Diana Melton, web developer, KSDK-TV, St. Louis, MO;
    Fred McFarland, team leader, Digital Production Center, Gannett Digital;
    Erik Sundvall, senior creative services manager, USA TODAY;
    Pauline White, media support trainer, Newsquest, UK.
