Gannett Honors Top Employees, ‘Unsung Heroes’

McLEAN, VA – Gannett today named Barbara Henry the company’s Manager of the Year. Henry is president of the Indiana Newspaper Group and president and publisher of The Indianapolis Star.

Henry’s selection as Gannett’s 19th Manager of the Year was announced at a reception at the company’s headquarters here. The award honors top leaders at the company for their management skills, creativity and results.

Other awards announced at the reception:

    Mark Mikolajczyk, vice president/production, Newspaper Division, was named Corporate Staffer of the Year. Mikolajczyk works at the company’s headquarters.
    Julie Berns, senior account executive/USA WEEKEND, was named Gannett Sales Executive of the Year. Berns works in the newspaper magazine’s Chicago office.
    The Pensacola (Fla.) News Journal was honored with the Gannett Diversity Award.

Also honored at the reception were winners of the Gannett 16th annual “Unsung Heroes” award.
They are: Karen Creamer, programming administrator, KSDK-TV, St. Louis; Patricia Fitzgerald, marketing assistant, New York Marketing, USA TODAY; Donna Fonda, advertising operations manager, Asbury Park (N.J.) Press; Valerie Hoeppner, assistant director of photography, Argus Leader, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Angelo Milazzo, Newspaper In Education (NIE) coordinator, Press & Sun-Bulletin, Binghamton, N.Y.; Ernie Owens, building supervisor, Palladium-Item, Richmond, Ind.
