J. Patrick Doyle Named President and Publisher of the Palladium-Item in Richmond, Ind.

ARLINGTON, Va. — J. Patrick Doyle has been named president and publisher of the Palladium-Item in Richmond, Ind., it was announced today.

Doyle previously was group publisher for Conley Publishing Group in Hartford, Wis. He succeeds Emmett Smelser, who earlier was named president and publisher of The Star Press in Muncie, Ind.

“Pat Doyle is an experienced newspaper executive with a strong record of success,” said Gary L. Watson, president of the Newspaper Division. “We welcome him to Gannett.”

Before joining the Conley Group in 1997, Doyle spent 17 years with Thomson Newspapers, where he served as a vice president and group publisher and in varied corporate roles, including chief operating officer of a group of 14 newspapers.

Doyle is a graduate of Mankato (Minn.) State University.
