KUSA-TV Honored with Alfred I. DuPont-Columbia University Silver Baton Journalism Award

McLEAN, VA – Gannett (NYSE: GCI) announced today that KUSA-TV in Denver, CO, is among the winners of the Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Awards for excellence in broadcast journalism. The awards are administered by the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.

KUSA will be awarded a Silver Baton Award for its series of “9Wants to Know” investigative reports, “Who Is Greg Castle?” The station reported that Gordon Miller (aka Greg Castle) tricked dozens of people into voluntarily giving up their homes prior to foreclosure — and then rented those homes to others — even though Miller had no legitimate legal claim to the houses. Miller recently pleaded guilty to two counts of wire fraud and was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison.

“This work by KUSA is a terrific example of how investigative journalism makes a difference in the communities we serve. We are pleased that others also recognize the outstanding work delivered by our talented team of journalists in Denver,” said Dave Lougee, president of Gannett Broadcasting.

The Silver Baton will be awarded to KUSA on January 20, 2011 at the Columbia School of Journalism in New York.
