Skip Foster Named President and Publisher of the Tallahassee Democrat
McLEAN, VA – Gannett Co., Inc. (NYSE: GCI) today named Skip Foster president and publisher of the Tallahassee (FL) Democrat. He will assume his new role on January 12, 2015. Foster was previously publisher of the Northwest Florida Daily News in Fort Walton Beach, along with overseeing four other publications.
“Skip is a talented, creative leader with a proven track record of success,” said Michael G. Kane, east group president for Gannett U.S. Community Publishing. “We look forward to Skip joining Gannett and guiding the future of the Democrat, the trusted news source in Florida’s capital.”
Previously, Foster was editor, then publisher of the Shelby (NC) Star, where he developed the industry’s first mobile newsroom with the University of South Carolina. He started his career in 1988 as a sports writer at the Hickory (NC) Daily Record, then rose to managing editor of The Gaston Gazette in Gastonia, NC.
“What an honor to lead a media organization with a legacy as strong as the Democrat,” Foster said. “I can’t wait to meet every member of the staff and to dive into the market, learning about how the Democrat can best serve this great capital city.”
Foster received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of the South in Sewanee, TN, with a major in political science. Foster is married to former North Carolina District Court Judge Dina Foster, now an attorney in Florida. The couple have three children.
