TEGNA Wins Nine National Edward R. Murrow Awards
Tysons, VA – TEGNA Inc. (NYSE: TGNA) announced that its stations have won nine National Edward R. Murrow Awards from the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) for excellence in local journalism. TEGNA stations received more National Murrow Awards than any other local television broadcast group. TEGNA stations WGRZ in Buffalo and KING in Seattle each received awards in multiple categories, while KTVB in Boise earned an honor for Excellence in Innovation.
The TEGNA National Edward R. Murrow Award winners are:
KTVB – Boise: Excellence in Innovation for “360 3D,” for the innovative use of 360-degree 3-D video storytelling in feature reporting
WGRZ – Buffalo: Multimedia for “A Diocese in Crisis,” covering sexual abuse in the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo
WGRZ – Buffalo: Excellence in Writing for anchor Kate Welshofer’s unique storytelling
KUSA – Denver: Hard News for “A Vivitrol ‘Success’ Story,” covering the use of the drug Vivitrol to treat opioid addiction in Colorado jails
KARE – Minneapolis: Excellence in Video for “A New Spin on Winter,” about a Minnesota man’s attempt to build the world’s largest ice carousel
KING – Seattle: News Series for “Veterans for Profit,” exposing a charity’s gross mismanagement and misappropriation of funds meant to help veterans in need
KING – Seattle: Excellence in Writing for “Sharify Stories,” for John Sharify’s heartfelt, emotional reporting
KGW – Portland: Feature Reporting for “Saving His Music,” the story of a man with Alzheimer’s working with a pianist to save a lifetime of original songs
KSDK – St. Louis: Sports Reporting for “Just the Right Note,” about a young boy’s attempt to lift the spirits of a struggling professional baseball player
