Toellner Named General Manager at WGRZ-TV in Buffalo, NY

McLEAN, VA – Jim Toellner has been named president & general manager of WGRZ-TV, the Gannett-owned NBC affiliate in Buffalo, NY. Toellner will replace former WGRZ president and general manager Darryll Green, who was named last week to the same role at Gannett’s Washington, D.C. affiliate, W*USA-TV.

“Jim knows and understands this market. As a member of the management team, his role goes beyond sales and he has been a great contributor to the success of WGRZ. I have every confidence in his ability to lead this team to greater success and to continue to meet the needs of our viewers,” said Craig Dubow, president & CEO, Gannett Broadcasting.

Toellner has served as general sales manager for WGRZ-TV since March of 2001. Before joining WGRZ-TV, Toellner was general sales manager at WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids, MI, from 1999-2001.

Toellner began his career at the Buffalo News as an account executive and later as a sales manager. He moved to television and held positions at the local ABC and CBS affiliates as an account executive, local sales manager and national sales manager.

Toellner, a native of North Tonawanda, NY, graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1981 with a B.S. in management.
