Appointments Announced at Gannett Retail Advertising Group

ARLINGTON, VA. — Five appointments were announced today in the Gannett Retail Advertising Group by Donald M. Stinson, vice president/advertising in the Newspaper Division and president of the Retail Advertising Group.

— Christopher R. Frey, 43, formerly regional sales manager for Gannett National Newspaper Sales, was named a director/advertising development in Gannett’s Newspaper Division and a vice president of the Gannett Retail Advertising Group.

—Deborah Gates, 46, was named a Director/Sales. Before joining Gannett National Newspaper Sales in 1996, she was a regional manager with Strategic Print Marketing in Napierville, Ill. and held sales and management positions with newspapers in Michigan, Oklahoma and North Carolina.

— Charles Rowe, 48, was named a vice president. Formerly with Gannett National Newspaper Sales in New York, Rowe was previously advertising director of The Desert Sun (Palm Springs, California) and display advertising director of Gannett Suburban Newspapers in New York.

—Tammis Tharp, 45, was named a Director/Sales. Before joining Gannett National Newspaper Sales as a regional manager in 1991, she was retail advertising manager of The Arkansas Gazette at Little Rock and held sales and management positions with The Kansas City Star.

—Denise Thompson, 45, was named a Director/Sales. Formerly with Gannett National Newspaper Sales in Greenville, S.C., Thompson was previously vice president/account supervisor with Henderson Advertising in Greenville. She is a graduate of the University of Georgia and holds an MBA from Clemson University.

The Gannett Retail Advertising Group represents the company’s newspapers, other than USA TODAY, in the sale of advertising to national and regional retailers and service providers. The group, based in Chicago, also handles the representation for Gannett’s Four-Color Newspaper Network.

Gannett is a nationwide news and information company that publishes 89 daily newspapers, including USA TODAY, and USA WEEKEND, a newspaper magazine. Gannett also operates 18 television stations, five radio stations, cable television systems in five states and alarm security services.

ARLINGTON, VA. — Christopher R. Frey has been named a director/advertising development in Gannett’s Newspaper Division and a vice president of the Gannett Retail Advertising Group, which represents the company’s newspapers, other than USA TODAY, in the sale of advertising to national and regional retailers and service-providers, it was announced today.

Frey, 43, was previously Detroit regional sales manager for Gannett National Newspaper Sales. Before joining Gannett in 1993, Frey was vice president/associate media director of Ross Roy Advertising in Detroit and director of media for Kmart.

“Chris brings a wealth of experience to his new assignment,” said Donald M. Stinson, vice president/advertising of the Newspaper Division and president of the Gannett Retail Advertising Group. “His impressive background in sales, advertising and retailing provide added strength as we address the opportunities and challenges that await our business in the next century.”

Frey is a 1977 graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and holds an MBA from the University of Chicago.
