Gannett Honors Top Employees, Including Inaugural Greater Good Award Winners

McLEAN, VA – Gannett Co., Inc. (NYSE: GCI) today honored winners of its annual companywide employee awards program in addition to its Unsung Heroes at a ceremony at Gannett corporate headquarters.

Gannett announced award winners for 2011 Manager of the Year, Innovator of the Year, Sales Executive of the Year, Corporate Staffer of the Year, the Leadership & Diversity Unit Award, Individual Leadership & Diversity Award and the inaugural Greater Good Awards.

The Greater Good Awards were launched this year to recognize the individual and unit that best represent the company’s shared purpose, which is to serve the greater good in the nation and communities we serve.

“We are proud today to shine a spotlight on these extraordinary employees who have contributed much to our success,” said Gracia Martore, president and CEO at Gannett. “Through their dedication to go above and beyond what is required, these winners demonstrate their deep commitment to our consumers, advertisers and to our communities. Award winners and the finalists are:

    Manager of the Year – John Zidich, West Newspaper Group/Group President at U.S. Community Publishing and president and publisher of Republic Media, Phoenix. Finalists: Patti Dennis, vice president and news director at KUSA-TV in Denver and regional news director; Steve Fuschetti, president and CEO of Gannett Media Technologies International; and Ken Ramirez, executive vice president/operations, Gannett Education, Gannett Healthcare Group.
    Innovator of the Year – Nick Bolland, digital producer, and Carol Horton, marketing manager, both at The Desert Sun in Palm Springs, CA. Finalists: Gannett/USAT Mobile Team (Robbie Dillon, Scott Guyer, Chris Kamsler, Abhi Patwardhan, Matt Rogers, Shep Shapard); and Joe Lazzaro, director of digital sales for Gannett Broadcast.
    Sales Executive of the Year – Ryan Mote, sales manager/large local controllables, Republic Media, Phoenix. Finalists: Clinton Hasse, account executive at KSDK-TV, St. Louis, MO; and Traci Wallack, senior account executive, USA WEEKEND.
    Corporate Staffer of the Year – Mark Faris, manager/news litigation, Gannett. Finalists: Sean McNevin, senior director/product development, Travel Media Group, Gannett; and Don Paff, vice president of Human Resources Services, Gannett.
    Greater Good Award, Individual – Pam Brown, senior editor, USA WEEKEND. Runners-up: Mary Beth Pfeiffer, projects writer, Poughkeepsie (NY) Journal; and Mike Redding, multimedia executive producer, WFMY-TV, Greensboro, NC.
    Greater Good Award, Unit -WXIA-TV at Atlanta. Finalists: Republic Media, Phoenix; and Statesman Journal, Salem, OR.
    Leadership and Diversity, Individual – Mei-Mei Chan, president and publisher of The News-Press, Fort Myers, FL; and Jeanette Barrett-Stokes, managing editor, Gannett Custom Media.
    Leadership and Diversity, Unit – The Star Press, Muncie, IN. Finalists: KXTV-TV, Sacramento, CA; The Desert Sun, Palm Springs, CA; The Greenville (SC) News; Times Media Group, Shreveport, LA; and The Journal News, Westchester County, NY.

In addition, Gannett honored its Unsung Hero award winners:

    Gannett IA Digital Team/information architects Lynn Cheryan, Toral Contractor, Courtney Dean and Brian Price;
    Brian Franco, solutions architect, Gannett Broadcasting;
    Mark McBee, senior account specialist, Customer Service, Gannett Publishing Services, Springfield, VA;
