Gannett Makes Three Executive Appointments in Wisconsin

McLEAN, VA- Gannett Co., Inc. (NYSE: GCI) today made three executive appointments at its operations in Wisconsin.

    William G. Hackney has been named president and publisher of The Reporter and president of publications for Action Advertising, both in Fond du Lac, WI. Hackney has been general manager at the Herald Times Reporter in Manitowoc, WI since 2002.
    Lowell D. Johnson will replace Hackney as general manager in Manitowoc. Johnson has been director of Advertising at The Sheboygan (WI) Press.
    Gregg Davies will become president of printing for Action Advertising. Davies has been director of Sales and Marketing for Action Printing.

William G. Hackney

Hackney had been circulation director in Manitowoc for four years when Gannett bought the newspaper in 2000. He remained in the job for two years before becoming general manager of the newspaper.

Hackney began his career in the newspaper business in 1975 at the Herald Standard in Uniontown, PA, where he held circulation positions until 1980. From 1980 to 1996, Hackney held various circulation jobs at newspapers in Pennsylvania, Missouri and Wisconsin, rising from district sales manager to circulation director.

Hackney is a graduate of Penn State University in business administration and distribution. He was named Business Associate of The Year by the American Business Women’s Association in 1995.

Lowell D. Johnson

Johnson first came to the Herald Times Reporter in Manitowoc in 1986 as an advertising account executive. He also has served as director of Advertising and manager of Retail Advertising at the paper from 1988 through 2006. In early 2007, Johnson was named director of advertising in Sheboygan.

He has a B.A. in journalism from the University of Wisconsin in Eau Claire.

Gregg Davies

Davis joined Action Printing in 1997 as director of Sales and Marketing, during which time Action’s print sales nearly doubled. He began selling print products in 1975 for Citizen Publishing in Wisconsin. From 1972 through 1975, he worked in ad sales for local weekly newspapers, and was named publisher of three weeklies.

He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh, in psychology and sociology.
