Publisher Named in Sioux Falls, S.D.
ARLINGTON, Va. — Arnold H. (Arnie) Garson has been named president and publisher of the Argus-Leader at Sioux Falls, S.D., it was announced today. Garson succeeds Mary J. Devish, who remains at the Argus-Leader as finance director.
“Arnie Garson is assuming the responsibility for a solid newspaper in a great community,” said Gary L. Watson, president of the Newspaper Division. “Under Arnie’s leadership, the Argus- Leader should continue to grow and improve.”
Garson joined The Des Moines Register in 1969, where he served as a reporter and in editing roles, including managing editor. In 1988, he was named editor of The San Bernardino County (Calif.) Sun.
He is a graduate of the University of Nebraska and UCLA.
Devish was named president and publisher in 1993 after serving as controller for five years. She joined the newspaper in 1982.
