Two Executive Appointments Announced at Army Times Publishing Co.

ARLINGTON, Va. — The appointment of two executives at the Army Times Publishing Company (ATPC) was announced today.

The appointments will be effective with the completion of the acquisition of ATPC by Gannett Co., Inc., in early August.

— Henry L. Belber will become chairman. He has been president and CEO of ATPC.

— Elaine Howard will become president and CEO. She previously has been vice president and publisher of the News Division, which includes Defense News and Space News weekly publications.

“We’re extremely pleased that we will be able to maintain the continuity of the management at the Army Times Publishing Company after the purchase is finalized,” said Gary L. Watson, president of Gannett’s Newspaper Division.

“Henry Belber’s knowledge and insights into this very competitive business will be invaluable,” Watson said, “while Elaine Howard’s proven record with the News publications will serve her well as she assumes this expanded responsibility.”

Belber joined ATPC in 1966 as marketing director. He was named executive vice president in 1989 and president a year later. He is a graduate of Bucknell University.

Howard has served as publisher of the News publications since January 1996. She joined the company in 1986 and has served in a variety of management roles, including director of sales and associate publisher. She previously was employed at Southern New England Telephone Co. She is a graduate of Old Dominion University.

Army Times Publishing Company publishes six weekly and one monthly publication serving the U.S. military and international space and defense industries. The company is located in Springfield, Va.

Gannett is a nationwide news and information company that publishes 89 daily newspapers, including USA TODAY, and USA WEEKEND, a newspaper magazine. Gannett also operates 18 television stations, five radio stations, cable television systems in five states and alarm security services.
