Van Lare Becomes Senior vice President of Gannett Labor Relations
McLEAN, VA – Wendell J. Van Lare will become senior vice president of Labor Relations at Gannett Co., Inc. (NYSE: GCI), effective June 1. He has been running the department since January as vice president and senior labor counsel.
“Elevating Wendell to senior vice president places him on the top management team at Gannett, and gives us the benefit of his experience and knowledge in our strategic discussions,” said Craig A. Dubow, president and CEO of Gannett. “He’s a proven leader and we welcome him aboard.”
Van Lare joined Gannett in 1977 from the Rochester, NY, law firm of Harter, Secrest, and Emery, where he specialized in labor law. He is a graduate of the State University College in New Paltz, NY, and received a law degree from Albany (NY) Law School of Union University, where he was an editor of the Albany Law Review. He was an officer in the U.S. Navy from 1968 to 1970.
Van Lare was named Gannett’s Corporate Staffer of the Year in 1990. Currently, he serves on the Board of the SUNY New Paltz Foundation. On July 1, he begins a two-year term as chair of the Newspaper Association of America Employee Relations Committee.
