Van Lare to Head Gannett Labor Relations

McLEAN, VA – Wendell J. Van Lare, vice president and senior labor counsel, will head the Labor Relations group at Gannett Co., Inc. (NYSE: GCI), the company said today. He will take over from John Jaske, who is retiring at the end of January.

“Wendell brings to this job a depth of experience not only in labor relations, but also in Gannett. He has more than 28 years experience in Gannett Labor Relations and really knows the territory,” said Craig A. Dubow, president and CEO of Gannett. “We are pleased to have him take on these new responsibilities.”

Van Lare joined Gannett in 1977 from the Rochester, NY, law firm of Harter, Secrest, and Emery, where he specialized in labor law. He is a graduate of the State University College in New Paltz, NY, and received a law degree from Albany (NY) Law School of Union University, where he was an editor of the Albany Law Review. He was an officer in the U.S. Navy from 1968 to 1970.

Van Lare was named Gannett’s Corporate Staffer of the Year in 1990. Currently, he serves on the Board of the SUNY New Paltz Foundation.
