Gannett Acquires the Assets of the Daily World in Opelousas, La.

ARLINGTON, VA – Gannett Co., Inc. today acquired the assets of the Daily World in Opelousas, La., from The New York Times Company Regional Newspaper Group. The acquisition brings to 100 the number of daily newspapers Gannett owns in the United States.

“Adding the Daily World to Gannett’s four other dailies in Louisiana expands our opportunities in the state and strengthens our commitment to the region,” said Douglas H. McCorkindale, president and chief executive officer of Gannett. The company’s average paid circulation in Louisiana now will surpass 200,000 per day.

Gannett Co., Inc. is an international news and information company that publishes 100 daily newspapers in the USA, including USA TODAY, the nation’s largest-selling daily newspaper. The company also owns in excess of 200 non-daily publications in the USA and USA WEEKEND, a weekly newspaper magazine.
