Gannett Announces Two Executive Appointments

ARLINGTON, Va. — Two executive appointments were announced today.

–Brooks Johnson becomes president of Media West-RNI, Inc. He previously was president and publisher of The San Bernardino County (Calif.) Sun.

–Mark Adkins succeeds Johnson as president and publisher in San Bernardino. He previously held a similar position at the North Hills News Record in suburban Pittsburgh.

Johnson, 49, joined Gannett in 1977 as advertising director at the Palladium-Item in Richmond, Ind. He was named advertising director of the Rockford (Ill.) Register Star in 1981.

In 1984, Johnson became president and publisher of the Fort Collins Coloradoan. He joined The San Bernardino County Sun in 1987. He also served as a vice president of the Pacific Newspaper Group. Johnson is a graduate of the University of Illinois.

Media West-RNI, Inc., is a wholly-owned subsidiary that manages royalty-earning investments. It is based in Reno, Nev.

Adkins, 41, joined the company in 1983 at FLORIDA TODAY in Brevard County, where he served in advertising management positions, including advertising director. He joined the Newspaper Division staff as director/advertising sales development in 1992. He was named to his position in North Hills in 1996.

A successor to Adkins in North Hills will be named shortly.

Gannett is a nationwide news and information company that publishes 89 newspapers, including USA TODAY and USA WEEKEND, a newspaper magazine. Gannett also operates 18 television stations, five radio stations, cable television systems in five states and alarm security services.
