Gannett Journalists Win SABEW awards

Writers at four Gannett media organizations won awards in the Society of American Business Editors and Writers (SABEW) 18th Best in Business competition. The awards honor excellence in business and financial journalism across all news platforms. Winners:

    USA TODAY – First Place, Health, Medical and Science Writing by an Individual or Team (Peter Eisler, “When Healthcare Makes You Sick”); Second Place, Environmental Writing by an Individual or Team (Thomas Frank and Christopher Schnaars, “Green Inc: Environmentalism for Profit”); USA TODAY – Second Place, Journalistic Innovation (Alison Young, Peter Eisler and John Hillkirk, “Ghost Factories: Poison in the Ground”)
    USA TODAY – staff, for “Ghost Factories” in the Innovation category; Thomas Frank for “Green Inc.: Environmentalism for Profit” in Explanatory category; USA TODAY Money Section, for general excellence.
    St. Cloud Times – Kevin Allenspach, for “Chasing Futures in the Oil Patch” in the Explanatory category.
    The Des Moines Register – Christopher Doering, Donnelle Eller, Victor Epstein, Lynn Hicks, Patt Johnson, Dan Piller, Marco Santana, for general excellence.
    The Tennessean – Walter Roche, for “Assisted Living Abuses” in the investigative category.
