Lafferty to Become President and Publisher of New Jersey’s Daily Record

ARLINGTON, Va. — Walt T. Lafferty will become president and publisher of the Daily Record of Morristown, N.J., when the acquisition of the newspaper by Gannett Co., Inc., is completed, it was announced today.
The sale of the newspaper by Goodson Newspapers, Inc., to Gannett is expected to be completed this summer.
Lafferty, 37, has served as general manager of the Daily Record since February 1995. He will succeed Thomas P. Geyer, who announced earlier he planned to retire at the time of the completion of the sale.
Lafferty began his newspaper career in 1983 as business office manager of the Delaware County Times in Primos, Pa. He also has served as the newspaper’s business manager, controller and operations manager.
He also has been regional controller and systems coordinator for Ingersoll Publications and operations manager of the Ocean County Newspapers in Toms River, N.J.
Gannett is a nationwide news and information company that publishes 87 daily newspapers, including USA TODAY, and USA WEEKEND, a newspaper magazine. Gannett also operates 21 television stations and cable television systems in five states.
