Lyons Named Associate Publisher at Gannett Suburban Newspapers

ARLINGTON, Va. — Sheldon Lyons has been named associate publisher of Gannett Suburban Newspapers at White Plains, N.Y., it was announced today.

Lyons previously was president of Gannett National Newspaper Sales (GNNS). He joined Gannett in 1968 at Gannett Suburban Newspapers, where he held several management positions, including general manager of the Rockland Journal-News, vice president of advertising and vice president of marketing. He joined GNNS in 1986. He formerly worked at the New York World-Telegram and Sun, The World Journal-Tribune and Cosmopolitan magazine.

Lyons is a graduate of City College of New York.

“Shelly Lyons is a knowledgeable, experienced executive who understands the greater New York City market,” said Gary F. Sherlock, president and publisher of Gannett Suburban Newspapers. “His savvy will be a great asset in this highly competitive environment.”

Donald M. Stinson, vice president/advertising in the Newspaper Division, will assume leadership of GNNS.

Gannett is a nationwide news and information company that publishes 89 daily newspapers, including USA TODAY, and USA WEEKEND, a newspaper magazine. Gannett also operates 18 television stations, five radio stations, cable television systems in five states and alarm security services.
