Two Executive Appointments Announced

ARLINGTON, Va. — Two executive promotions were announced at the Gannett annual meeting today by Douglas McCorkindale, vice chairman and president.

— Thomas Curley, president and publisher of USA TODAY, has been given the additional role of senior vice president/administration at Gannett.

— Gracia Martore, vice president/treasury services and investor relations, was named treasurer and continues as vice president/investor relations.

Curley, 49, began his career at Gannett in 1972 at the Rochester (N.Y.) Times-Union. He was part of the team created in 1979 to study the feasibility of a national newspaper. After serving as editor or publisher at various Gannett newspapers, he came back to USA TODAY in 1985. He became the newspaper’s sixth president in 1986, and was named publisher in 1991.

“Tom Curley has succeeded at every task assigned to him at Gannett. His new duties will allow him to become even more involved in the overall management of the company,” McCorkindale said.

Martore, 46, joined Gannett in 1985 as assistant treasurer. She was named vice president/treasury services in 1993 and was given the additional role of vice president/investor relations in 1996.

“Gracia Martore has been an essential part of Gannett’s financial team since the day she joined the company. Her promotion to treasurer reflects her continuing, expanding role in financial management at Gannett,” McCorkindale said.

Gannett is a nationwide news and information company that publishes 87 daily newspapers, including USA TODAY, and USA WEEKEND, a newspaper magazine. Gannett also operates 20 television stations and cable television systems in five states.
