Let’s learn more about Swapna as she takes on this key leadership role in shaping the future of product marketing at TEGNA.

Talk about your career path. How did you get to where you are today at TEGNA?
I’ve been fortunate to work at some incredibly creative and innovative companies during my career (Google, ESPN, Scripps Networks Interactive, Current TV) in various Product Marketing/Ad Sales Marketing/Enablement roles.

I was ready for a pause at the end of 2021 and left Google in January for my ‘Swapna sabbatical.’  Shortly thereafter, former ESPN colleague Taresh Mullick reached out to see if I’d be interested in the Director of Product Marketing role. One call led to another and a chance to bring my TV & Digital experience to TEGNA landed me here!  Throughout my interview process, I loved hearing the stories about my future colleagues and their passion for the company and its mission.

What is your current role at TEGNA? What are you most looking forward to?
Director of Product Marketing for TEGNA Marketing Solutions. I’m looking forward to connecting with the teams and understanding how our product solutions can best help our customers drive meaningful business impact and how we can really help businesses at both the local and national levels.

Good Company: What does being in good company mean to you?
It means surrounding yourself with people who fill your heart and mind and help inspire and drive you to be the best version of yourself.

What advice would you give to someone looking to work in media/sales/marketing?
A mentor once advised me to spend time working in companies of all sizes (small, medium, large) to see which is best. I’ve been fortunate to work across a variety of different-sized companies and it’s been a great journey to see where/how I best fit!

What’s your secret talent?
Remembering faces. Also, continually seeking the best living room/bedroom/home office set up, even if it means moving entire sectional couches.

Motto or personal mantra?
I believe the energy you put into the world finds its way back to you. Two mottos I keep in mind:  “This too shall pass” (credit to my mom) and “[Insert higher being relevant to you] only gives you what you can handle” (credit to my friend Jen, it’s been very helpful when confronted with personal or professional challenges!).

Which cartoon character would you most like to switch lives with?
Daria? But I think it’s mostly that I related to her, not so much that I want to switch lives 😊

What TV show/movie are you sorry/not sorry to admit you love?
The Bachelor and Bachelorette (though admittedly, I haven’t gotten into this season.)

If you were stuck on an island, what three things would you bring?
Family, friends, and fine wine.

What is on your bucket list?
I probably add things to my bucket list after the fact. I’m mostly just grateful to be fortunate enough to experience whatever it was!

You’re happiest when ….
It’s Friday late afternoon/early evening and I’m thinking about the weekend ahead, hopefully soon to be surrounded by friends and family.
