Maria Delgado, Brand Marketing Manager, WFAA

Talk about your career path. How did you get to where you are today at TEGNA?
I started my career as an intern in the News department here at WFAA in Dallas. I quickly realized the true passion it takes to be a journalist and decided that life was not for me! I look back extremely grateful because it gave me the opportunity to learn about myself and where my heart is. My passion lies in cinematography and having a creative outlet through a camera lens. I started poking my head into many different departments around the building and found my home in marketing! My perseverance and hard work landed me a job as a marketing producer in Dallas following my internship. Now a few years later, I’ve been promoted to Brand Manager and continue working at my dream station, WFAA.

What advice would you give to someone looking to work in media/sales/marketing?
Never stop learning. Keep expanding your skillset and take on new projects that may be outside of your comfort zone. It’ll force you to grow! Also, network, network, network. You never know who will put the next opportunity in front of you. Surrounding yourself with good mentors and sponsors that will help you excel in your career is important.

If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as you?
Gina Rodriguez! She’s a hilarious, fun, and bubbly girl that wiggles her way into everyone’s heart.

Where would you like to go on a dream vacation?
My dream vacation would be Bora Bora. I belong on the beach! I think I may have been a mermaid in a previous life. It’s ranked the most beautiful beach in the world and has some of the best scuba diving. I’m fascinated with sea life and, of course, just relaxing with some fresh coconut water!

What is on your bucket list?
My must-do bucket list item is to visit all the Seven Wonders of the World. I’ve already seen 3 out of 7! Each experience has been breathtaking. I actually cried when I saw my first wonder: Chichen Itza in Mexico! I just love traveling because I experience new cultures, knowledge, and the amazing structures humans created. The more I experience, the more I realize that we’re not actually gaining knowledge. We’re losing it, so it’s important to experience and learn from our history as much as possible.

Iris Duran, Account Manager, WFAA

Talk about your career path. How did you get to where you are today at TEGNA?
I started in this industry as a receptionist at a Spanish TV/radio station. Hard work and dedication earned me the opportunity to move into Sales, where I was introduced to a whole new world I didn’t know existed. Fast forward to today, I’m currently an account manager at WFAA and have been in the industry for 11 years.

Good Company: What does being in good company mean to you?
Good company to me means good people! Being surrounded by the good ones who will guide, empower, encourage, support, and motivate you to succeed leads our clients and their business to success. People make a company GOOD!

If Hollywood made a movie about your life, who would you like to see cast as you?
Gina Rodriguez or Eva Mendez.

Which cartoon character would you most like to switch lives with?
Tweety bird.

What TV show/movie are you sorry/not sorry to admit you love?
Stranger Things.

Where would you like to go on a dream vacation?
The Maldives.

What is on your bucket list?
Travel around the world.

You’re happiest when …
I get to have a front-row seat to all my kids’ achievements and when I get a smile from them for no reason 😊

Ernesto Romero, Local Sales Manager, KENS 5

Talk about your career path. How did you get to where you are today at TEGNA?
I was born in Brownsville, raised in Monterrey, Mexico, and by the age of 21, moved to San Antonio for the start of my sales career.  I’ve worked in this market for 17 years in newspapers, radio, Hispanic TV, and general market TV. I’ve been very blessed to have learned from the best throughout my career. To this day, I continue my lifelong commitment to learning and growth.

What is your current role at TEGNA? What are you most looking forward to?
I’m the Local Sales Manager at KENS 5. I oversee all the local dollars that come into the station, and I lead a team of Executives whose main purpose is to serve the greater good of our communities by helping businesses and brands grow. In this role, I look forward to continuing to inspire my team to become the very best version of themselves by developing and building them to perform at heights they never imagined.

What’s your secret talent?
I can play several various instruments, including the piano, guitar, bass, and drums. I’m also a decent photographer.

Motto or personal mantra?
Seize the day and make it a great day!

Where would you like to go on a dream vacation?
Bora Bora – French Polynesia. I love the beach, it’s my happiest place!

Rick Delcampo, National Sales Manager, WCNC

Talk about your career path. How did you get to where you are today at TEGNA?
As crazy as it sounds, I knew I wanted to be in television since high school. But a news internship in college propelled me to the sales side of the business. I received an opportunity right after graduation at a station in Raleigh, and in a blink of an eye, 20 years passed by. But I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for the great people, leaders, and mentors I’ve come across. And who to this day continues to offer feedback and provide knowledge.

What advice would you give to someone looking to work in media/sales/marketing?
One piece of advice would be to find self-awareness. Know your strengths and weaknesses, ensure you fine-tune those strengths, and improve on your weaknesses at every opportunity possible. Also, mastering the art of time management is critical for success.

What TV show/movie are you sorry/not sorry to admit you love?
Not sorry that I love Breaking Bad. It was an amazing and well-written show. And just after a few episodes House of Dragons will soon be on my list.

Where would you like to go on a dream vacation?
The Maldives islands would be a dream vacation. Crystal clear waters, pristine white sand beaches, waters brimming with incredible marine life, good food, some sun, and away from Wi-Fi…What else do you need?

You’re happiest when …
I’m happiest when my family is happy. It seems cheesy, but I am at my best, most productive, and happiest when they are all in a great place.
